JustFly’s Top 3 Music Cities To Visit This Summer:
Austin, Texas
A thriving community of musicians usually means things become a little less “ordinary”, which is why Austin’s motto is to “Keep Austin Weird”. Austin strives to maintain its unique culture of supporting and cultivating both local arts and local business. The major musical draw for Austin is hands down the SXSW Festival. Taking place in mid-March, SXSW encompasses not just music, but also features conferences on film, technology, and media and is a huge draw for the city. Next year will be the festival’s 30th year in operation. Austin proudly boasts the home to the most music venues per capita in the United States, making it “The Live Music Capital” of the country. Looking to beat the summer heat? Venue-hop and sample a wide variety of musical genres.
Nashville, Tennessee
You don’t get the nickname “Music City U.S.A.” for nothing. Nashville is the cultural home of country music, serving as a launching pad throughout its evolution as one of the most popular genres in music. Nashville is the home of the Grand Ole Opry, The Country Music Hall Of Fame, and numerous museums dedicated to the artists and craft of country music. While the scene is dominated by country, western, and folk music, Nashville’s demographics have been shifting as it has become a technical and educational hub, making fertile ground for hip-hop, punk, and other genres to succeed in the background. If you are a country-western music fan, Nashville should land on your list of “must-visit” music cities to check out this summer.
New York City, New York
The birth-place of hip-hop, punk rock, new wave, and disco, New York City is one of the most influential cities in the world when it comes to harvesting, developing, and embracing musical culture. The city itself is home to some of the most important music venues in American history including Broadway, Radio City Music Hall, and CBGBs. Likewise, New York City is the home of the Juilliard School, an institution that has groomed some of the greatest musicians, artists, and performers to ever grace the stage including Miles Davis, John Williams, Phillip Glass, Yo-Yo Ma, and countless others. New York City is the ultimate melting pot of musical styles and genre and is perfect for those who can’t choose a favorite musical style.
