8 Best Airbnbs In Iceland All Around The Ring Road
INNI Boutique Apartments
INNI Boutique Apartments is a wonderful Airbnb in Iceland and was one of our favorite experiences ever due to a multitude of reasons! It is located in the geothermal town Hveragerði in the south of Iceland around 45-60 minutes from Reykjavik. We cannot recommend INNI enough due to the location, amenities, and overall decor!
First off, the location is fantastic! From here you can easily complete the Golden Circle, visit and explore the Reykjanes Peninsula, explore south coast locations such as Haifoss and even visit the more popular waterfalls such as Skogafoss if you want to make INNI your home base while you explore this area for a few days. This is one of the best stops around Iceland’s Ring Road. If you happen to be driving in Iceland, you will want to ensure that you make time to see it!
This is what we did and we were able to cover so much ground as the location was perfectly situated between all of the best sites in this part of Iceland. If you are looking to visit all the popular sites [and the lesser-known ones too!] INNI is the perfect Airbnb in Iceland for you as it is still nearby Reykjavik without actually being in the city itself!
INNI is one of the best Airbnbs in Iceland because it comes complete with a hot tub and steam shower. The hot tub closes at 11pm and the steam shower is open 24/7! The steam shower/steam sauna is heated with geothermal energy from the ground below making it easily the best steam sauna we have ever been in! The hot tub is wonderful for relaxing after a long day exploring Iceland and the property is so wonderful.
INNI is a small boutique apartment complex filled with multiple room options depending on what your interest is. Each apartment option comes complete with a fully stocked kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, living area, and washer and dryer. We stayed in INNI 3 which was really huge and perfect for us as a couple traveling together. This Airbnb in Iceland is fully renovated and what you get for the very affordable price makes it all worth it.
There are famous sites such as Reykjadalur Hot Springs less than a one-mile drive away and plenty of nearby grocery stores as well! If you are looking for a wonderful and affordable Airbnb in Iceland that is well decorated, offers plenty of amenities, and makes a great home base for exploring Iceland, this is the one for you!
Hemlulundur
Hemlulundur is one of the best Airbnbs in Iceland for those looking to stay in an entire home without breaking the bank. It is also a wonderful location that could be considered a gateway to visiting the Highlands in Iceland as you are very near the entrance. We understand that everyone is looking for something different and while this Airbnb in Iceland was situated in a great location, many may pass by it to stay in the town of Vik. This is a huge mistake! Katrin, the owner, was wonderful throughout our entire booking process and made it easy to understand. There is a map of what the road was like once you turn off highway 1 and it was easy to follow!
Check-in to Hemlulundur was also easy with a lock-box for entry. When we opened the door we were amazed at what we saw! This cabin was so cute and cozy and was well-appointed with luxurious touches such as the ultra-soft beds. It was the perfect size for our group of 3, but could have easily accommodated four, not including children.
Hemlulundur is located about 2 hours from Reykjavik area but only 10 minutes away from one of Iceland’s most popular waterfalls Selejendafoss as well as the entrance to the Icelandic Highlands! It within 40 minutes of most other southern Iceland attractions and makes the perfect “home base.” There is also a small town with a grocery store as well as a gas station just 10 minutes in the opposite direction. We had to get gas a few times during all of our exploring so this was very appreciated!
The cabin itself was stocked with many cooking supplies such as oil, spices, and more, which made making meals in this little Airbnb in Iceland quite easy! The space looks out over vast fields and you even have a view of a nearby glacier as well as Selejendafoss if you look into the distance. Finally, the outdoor hot tub which you can fill with geothermal water was the perfect thing to relax after a long day of exploring Iceland’s south coast!
Þorlaugargerði
As you are heading down the south coast of Iceland, we HIGHLY recommend that you take a detour and visit the Westman Islands. The Westman Islands are located 4 miles off the coast of south Iceland and there is a very affordable ferry that you can take over for your visit. We visited for 2 nights and stayed in Þorlaugargerði – Beautiful cozy summerhouse which is easily one of the best Airbnbs in Iceland.
First off, check-in at Þorlaugargerði was quite easy! Directions were provided and we followed them to find the house unlocked and the key inside on a table. When we arrived there was no wifi router that we could find and the host immediately drove over [in less than 5 minutes] and provided us with a new one which he set up! He also discussed how this Airbnb in Iceland has been in his family for generations and when we mentioned we wanted to see the Stave Church near the harbor, he informed us that he and his dad had just given it a fresh coat of paint a few days ago! We loved the experience!
Secondly, this Airbnb in Iceland offered some of the most spectacular views we have ever seen. There are large picture windows out the back of the home that offer sweeping views of the main island you are staying on and the outlying islands in the distance. You are essentially getting to see postcard views out of every window!
This is one of the best Airbnbs in Iceland for families and it is the largest on this list. There are so many rooms and areas and it can fit up to 9 guests. There is a loft area with an additional living room as well as a “basement” area that is fully stocked with bedroom and living room and bathroom. You can comfortably fit a large group of people at this Iceland Airbnb location on the Westman Islands with no issues!
Finally, this location came complete with a washer/dryer combo, fully stocked kitchen, and really fast wifi. It truly felt like staying at your Grandparents house and it was just so welcoming and the experience was so wonderful. If you visit the Westman Islands [highly recommend!] then this is the Airbnb in Iceland that you MUST stay at!
The Garage Apartments
If you are looking for the best Airbnb in Iceland near the south coast waterfalls, The Garage Apartments is the place for you! We TRULY cannot say enough about this location and Anna, the host! The Garage Apartments are comprised of a variety of lodging options but each one is a small studio with a kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, and living area. None of them share a bathroom although they are marked as “private room” on Airbnb each and every location is indeed an entire home Airbnb in Iceland.
The Garage Apartments are located in one of our favorite parts of Iceland and we cannot speak highly enough about them! The location is exactly 10 minutes from Skogafoss, our favorite waterfall in all of Iceland and 10 minutes from Selejendafoss. The backyard of The Garage Apartments is a photographers dream and we easily spent 5 hours hiking through it and taking tons of photos. Anna welcomes guests to explore the back yard and we highly encourage you to as well!
Our apartment was super cozy and we loved the blackout shades so we could easily sleep! We also loved that the studio apartment offered a kitchen so we could cook meals each and every night. There is also a main reception area that houses as massive and very well-stocked kitchen that Anna welcomes guests to use at their leisure. Our apartment did not have an oven so should we have wanted to use one we could have just walked to the main building to use the large kitchen. The best part? Anna would cook a different goodie every single day for guests to indulge in! This ranged from ginger cookies to cobbler and more! It was so delightful!
Finally, the Garage Apartments mad a fantastic base for exploring the south coast sights. The famous Black Sand Beach was only around 40 minutes away and when we wanted to go out and take photos of the Midnight Sun at beautiful locations nearby, we could hop in our car and be there within minutes! If you are looking for one of the most fantastic Airbnbs in Iceland, this is the place for you!
This stop is in a great area and actually on our list of Best Places To Stay In Iceland. In this post, we offer suggestions for where to stay around the Ring Road!
Lambhus Cabins
We are going to be honest with you, finding Airbnbs in Iceland near the famous Glacier Lagoon is very hard. It is also very expensive and you don’t get much for the price. If you are searching for a fantastic south-east Iceland Airbnb near the Glacier Lagoon, Lambhus Cabins will be your saving grace! These cabins are located equally 30 minutes from Iceland’s insanely popular and magical Glacier Lagoon and 40 minutes from the town of Hofn and the mountainous area known as Stokksness.
Lambhus Cabins are also perfectly located for exploring Skaftafell National Park and you can see a massive glacier from the window of some cabins. Finding Lambhus Cabins from the Ring Road is very easy and there is a sign. If you arrive during opening hours, you can head to the front office to get your key, otherwise, the staff will leave your door unlocked with the key inside.
We loved that the price of Lambhus Cabins was very affordable for what they offered which may be hard to come by when searching for Airbnbs in Iceland. We were going to have to pay $150+ to get two rooms [which would have cost our group of 3 $300+ per night] when we found the cabins! They start at $189USD per night [depending on your time of year] and can sleep four adults. The best part is that Lambhus Cabins come with a kitchenette which allows you the luxury of staying in and cooking yourself after a long day. A small fridge and cooktop was something that no one on the east coast was offering during our trip, especially for that price!
The beds were comfortable and set up in an adult style bunk bed which we didn’t have a problem with. The whole cabin is surrounded in windows, giving you a view of the glacier when you are dining or sitting on the sofa. The cabin was a studio so everything was all in one room, but for the location, price, and views, you really can’t beat it and we recommend this space to any traveler heading to Iceland!
Áshlíð Paradise
Áshlíð Paradise is located in the Eastfjords of Iceland and makes for a fantastic base for exploring the Eastfjords and the Stokksness area. You can also day-trip to the Glacier Lagoon and the drive is around 1.5 hours. This is one of the best Airbnbs in Iceland for those of you who are looking to live like a local. This is a locally owned summerhouse in the Eastfjords along a glacial river. Trees are very uncommon in Iceland and Áshlíð Paradise is situated among a small forest.
When you arrive at Áshlíð Paradise the host Jon will meet you at the main road and you will follow him down the road for around 2km until you arrive at the summerhouse. When you arrive at this lovely Airbnb in Iceland you will be surprised and amazed! There is a glacial river right out front and the area is popular for locals to camp and spend their weekends during the summer.
It was such an amazing experience to stay somewhere that felt remote that was really only around 7 minutes off the main Ring Road. We went to Stokksness for sunset and sunrise and it was an easy 20-minute drive away. Other beautiful black sand beaches and hot springs are located nearby too as are various entrances into the Icelandic highlands.
The Wifi at Áshlíð Paradise was pristine and fast which is very impressive for being in such a remote area but that is Iceland! The Wifi is pretty fantastic everywhere! This Airbnb in Iceland offers a fully stocked kitchen with every spice you could ever want to use as well as a large fridge and freezer and all the essentials for cooking dinner on your own. Jon also offers small food items such as pizza for a small fee if you should be so inclined.
The rooms were so cozy and we were easily able to sleep. Finally, there is a heated outdoor shower for the real summerhouse feel. We grew up with outdoor showers in the summer and when spending weekends “at the lake’ so this felt like a throwback to childhood. The location is unexpected and fantastic and this is one of the best Airbnbs in Iceland to make your home base when exploring the lower part of the Eastfjords and the eastern part of south Iceland.
The Cabin In The Lava
If you are driving the whole Ring Road and are looking for a luxurious Airbnb in North Iceland The Cabin In The Lava is the perfect slice of heaven for you! The Cabin In The Lava is located just 10 minutes from the town of Husavik, which is a very popular spot for whale watching in Iceland. The town is very nice and a brand new geothermal spa that overlooks the sea just opened! The Cabin In The Lava is also well located within an hour of other popular North Iceland attractions such as Godafoss and Myvatan Nature Baths.
The check-in process was easy and communication was perfect the entire time. One thing worth mentioning is that The Cabin In The Lava does not come with sheets/linens so you can pick them up for free in either Reykjavik or North Iceland or supply your own, depending on your circumstances. We chose to pick up our own in North Iceland and pickup was made easy for us when staying at this Airbnb in Iceland. The Cabin is equipped with many essentials for cooking and comes with a washing machine which was nice after exploring the Ring Road.
The Cabin In The Lava sleeps 6 people and is spacious enough for all of your belongings. The cabin is very secluded in a lava field so the view is of surrounding trees. In case you didn’t know, trees are very rare in Iceland so having them around the cabin was a real treat! Finally, if it is a nice day, you can sit out on the large deck and enjoy a morning coffee or a lunch while taking in the wonderful Icelandic nature.
Renewed Charming House
If you make it all the way to explore Iceland’s Westfjords, we highly recommend staying in Renewed Charming House in Thingyeri. The town of Thingnyeri is adorable and located just 30 minutes away from Dynjandi Waterfall, one of the most popular attractions in the Westfjords. Renewed Charming House is also located less than 30 minutes away from the biggest town in Westfjords and lots of grocery store and dining options. This Airbnb in Iceland is across the street from the only gas station in town, which makes finding it very easy and getting gas during your exploration even easier!
The check-in process for Renewed Charming House was easy with a lock-box and communication was great. This Airbnb in Iceland is split into two parts, upstairs, where you rent out the whole apartment, and downstairs, where you rent a room and share a kitchenette area. We rented the entire upstairs which was quite spacious and gorgeous, with incredible views of the fjord just outside the window! There is a bathtub with a hand shower upstairs, but if you want to shower in a regular shower or use the washer/dryer, you must climb down a secret staircase to the bottom floor. We loved this unique touch! While upstairs guests have access to the downstairs, downstairs guests do not have upstairs access.
The kitchen in Renewed Charming House was huge and there was everything from flour and sugar to a waffle maker for Airbnb guests to use! The wifi was extremely fast, the beds were comfortable, and the price was great for what we were offered. Our favorite part was the sweeping views of the adorable town and stunning Fjords right outside! If you are heading to the Westfjords and are looking for unique Airbnbs in Iceland with great locations, this is the place for you!
And there you have it! Easily some of the best Airbnbs in Iceland that you must stay in all around the Ring Road! There are so many options for finding the perfect Airbnb in Iceland that it may seem difficult, but we took the guesswork out and did the hard part just for you!
If you take our recommendation and stay in any of these Airbnb properties around Iceland, we would love to hear from you about your experience! We recommend each and every Iceland Airbnb property to you for the reasons explained above and know that they will exceed your expectations!
