We were excited when we found out we were going to test out the 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport during a weekend road trip in California. How did it go and what did we really think of Mitsubishi’s newest SUV crossover? Read on and discover our experience!
Road Tripping In The Redwoods With The 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport
When we arrived at the airport, we easily found the car in the parking lot [weloved the push-button start] and immediately loved the mercury grey coloring. We later discovered that there are a range of color choices available, from red and blue, to brown and black, if you are looking to purchase your own 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport.
When discovering new cars, the next thing we look for is how well do they do on gas. Since we were going to be road tripping from the San Francisco Bay Area to the California Redwoods, how well the 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport did on gas was really important to us. We were thrilled to learn that the crossover got 24 city/30 highway miles per gallon.
When we put the vehicle to the test, we discovered we were able to complete our entire road trip, which included hours of driving, on just one tank of gas! If you are looking for a crossover SUV that is easy on your wallet, the 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport is a great choice.
If you are looking for a ton of storage or want more space for your family, the 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport really isn’t the vehicle for you. It comes with 5 seats and a relatively small trunk area for an SUV. That being said, the car is perfect for a single adult, a couple, or a family of up to two kids.
As far as safety is concerned, the Outlander Sport hits all the marks. We particularly loved the Forward Collision Mitigation Feature. This feature warns the driver by making a beeping sound and then applying the breaks if necessary if a person or car is stopped at an unsafe distance ahead. We don’t text and drive but everyone gets distracted. This feature actually helped us notice a quick stop in front of us multiple times when driving. The seven-airbag system was another feature that added additional safety for both drivers and passengers. The vehicle also has auto-high beams, although the model we drove did not come with this feature.
The 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport came equipped with a sunroof that was as long as the entire vehicle. This made gazing at the majestic Redwoods even more epic as you could see them towering above you. We wish that the sunroof was able to open, even a little, for added airflow in the vehicle.
The interior of the 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport was all black, with beautiful black leather which is easy for keeping clean and stylish. In the main cabin, there were only two lights in the front seat and none in the back seat. This made trying to exit the vehicle and gather belongings at night nearly impossible using only the vehicle’s lighting. The trunk area also only had one tiny light which made it very difficult to see. We ended up having to use our phone flashlights when utilizing the back seat.
The 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport comes complete with 2 USB ports [none in the back seat], and a wonderful on-screen navigation system as well as backup cameras and satellite radio. The speakers in the Outlander Sport and top quality and deliver an enjoyable sound experience.
We road tripped the Redwoods in the 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport with our adult family. We feel that the car would have been perfect for just the two of us as the vehicle seems to be set up for 1-2 people to enjoy [no charging ports in the back seat, no lights in the back seat etc.] The front seat area was spacious and comfortable and equipped with all of the features that come with a modern-day crossover.
We loved how it was great on gas mileage which is helpful when driving in the city or taking a road trip and appreciated the safety features and backup camera.
